📊 Law and statistics under one roof – workshops for the Data Science in Law Student Research Group are behind us!
Today, at the Central Statistical Office, we hosted an ambitious group of students from the Data Science in Law Student Research Group, operating at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Warsaw. 🤝
The main theme of the meeting was "Public Statistics in the Analysis of Crime and Justice." We are pleased to have been able to show young law students what a powerful tool reliable data analysis can be in their future work.
What did we do together?
🔹 Practical workshops: Ms. Hanna Wingrowicz from the Department of Social Research guided students through the maze of our resources, including the Domain Knowledge Database, the Local Data Bank, and the STRATEG system.
🔹 International perspective: We discussed data from Eurostat, the OECD, and the UNODC, and how statistics allow for the comparison of social phenomena between countries.
🔹 Library Resources: Participants also visited the Reading Room of the Central Statistical Library, where, under the guidance of Ms. Małgorzata Czapalska, they learned about the history and latest statistical publications.
Why is this important?
Contemporary legal studies increasingly rely on quantitative methods. We want to support future lawyers and researchers in ensuring that their articles and analyses are based on verified, hard data from official public statistics sources.
